| Best Western Kimba Motor Lodge Maryborough Queensland - A Review |
|
1 4WD, 2 adults, 2 children and the wide open spaces of the East Coast of Australia......Stop 4 Maryborough, Queensland Maryborough sits on the Mary River and was a port city growing from an initial wool store established in 1847. It was proclaimed a port in 1859 and municipality in 1861 as it grew to handle the wool being produced inland. It is now very much a tourist town with much of the town’s heritage buildings retained and on display via a Heritage Walk and Drive. The town is also the birthplace of Mary Poppins author P.L. Travers and there are several memorials in town including a statue of Mary with characteristic bag and umbrella in hand.![]() The town is well laid out and designed and provides a great range of walks and parks for the visitor to undertake. Lovers of colonial architecture will be in their element in the town and it provides great access to the Mary River and nearby Coast. Our accommodation for the evening was the Best Western Kimba Motor Lodge. The name comes from the White Lion hotel associated with the motor lodge. We were provided with two adjoining rooms which were both well maintained, clean and well suited to either the individual business traveller, couples or families. Each room contains a toaster, kettle and microwave in addition to its own private balcony. The lodge has an outdoor pool and BBQ facilities. It also provides room service including a children’s menu and full breakfast. ![]() We dined at the Stables restaurant in the White Lion hotel and were impressed at the range, quality and variety of the menu. One thing we have noticed on our regular travels around Australia is that the quality of food on offer throughout country towns has become considerably more cosmopolitan compared to what I remember in my family holidays. The prices were extremely good – just over $100 for two entrees, four mains and drinks – with generous serves and all fresh ingredients.
