| Mantra Legends Hotel Surfers Paradise - A Review |
|
1 4WD, 2 adults, 2 children and the wide open spaces of the East Coast of Australia......Stop 3 Surfers Paradise, Queensland A shorter drive today – 7 hours including some stops at delightful little towns in North Eastern New South Wales – saw us hit Surfers Paradise and the Mantra Legends Hotel mid afternoon. The Mantra Legends Hotel, like most hotels in Surfers, is one block from the beach and surrounded by restaurants, cafes, surf shops and shopping arcades. We were booked as a family and provided with three adjoining hotel rooms – one bedroom for us parents, one for the kids and a living area in between. The rooms were very well maintained and comprised the usual inclusions plus a small kitchenette comprising two electric hotplates, sink and a combination oven, microwave. Complete sets of cutlery and crockery in addition to pans, saucepans and cooking utensils were also provided. While this was great we were informed on check in and throughout the rooms that the smoke detectors are extremely sensitive and if they go off due to food smoke (accidently) we incur the $1,000+ charge. On the first attempt to use the grill feature of the oven considerable smoke was produced and so we opted not to cook in the room. While not disappointing, as we got to eat at many of the fine eateries around the hotel, it was an unexpected cost and makes me wonder at the point of providing cooking facilities if they are likely to set off super sensitive smoke detectors – perhaps the engineers need to rethink that one! The hotel is well set out with the pool, spa, sauna, gym and business centre all off the main lobby. The pool was rated highly by the kids and is positioned so you can enjoy a drink at ‘Tales Bar’ while watching the children and many adults have fun in the pool. ‘Fables Restaurant’ is located off the lobby and provides both a buffet and a-la carte dining options. On our experience the food was well prepared, fresh and waiting staff very helpful and accommodating. The hotel provides complimentary towels for use at the pool and the beach and the concierge is more than able to assist guests in organising tours, identifying shops and providing other information. Buses operate out the front of the hotel to the major theme parks and other tourist locations while the hotel also offers complimentary undercover parking for guests with vehicles. Aside from the food preparation issue above, which was more a nuisance than a negative, the Mantra Legends Hotel is an excellent option for anyone wanting to spend time on the gold coast.
