| Best Western Macquarie Barracks Motor Inn Port Macquarie - A Review |
|
1 4WD, 2 adults, 2 children and the wide open spaces of the East Coast of Australia.......Stop 2 Port Macquarie, New South Wales After covering close to 1,000 kilometres in a day we arrived in the idyllic Port Macquarie. This city founded in 1821 as a convict settlement is now a major holiday resort and sizeable coastal town with a population in excess of 44,000. Known as a retirement destination the city offers a range of attractions and activities for holiday goers including numerous heritage buildings, beaches and nature reserves. Our digs for the evening was the Best Western Macquarie Barracks Motor Inn situated just outside the town centre and a short distance from the beach. Our room had two bedrooms and a small kitchenette – sink, stocked mini bar, toaster and kettle (but no microwave). The quality of the room was excellent as was its cleanliness and layout, which was ideal for families – one queen and three single beds. The staff were friendly and helpful enquiring as to how our trip was, suggesting places to eat and answering our enquiries. The Motor Inn provides free wireless internet access and has its own restaurant ‘Governors’ in addition to the usual offerings of a barbeque area, swimming pool, guest laundry or same day laundry and dry cleaning service. While only there for a short stay we would happily return to the Best Western Macquarie Barracks Motor Inn for a longer stay in the wonderfully charming Port Macquarie. The drive into Port Macquarie is excellent, well sign-posted and good quality roads. Winding through several national parks on the way from Sydney there are plenty of postcard moments along the route – with some excellent outcrops in road cuttings (for those like me who love rocks!!!).
