The Fairfield Park Boathouse – A Review
While the location may be idyllic and The Fairfield Park Boathouse a Melbourne institution is it still reasonable to charge $13.50 for a kids fish and chips?
This was the question I faced when pondering the mid week Fairfield Park Boathouse menu. With three hungry kids in tow I had no option other than to purchase 2 fish and chips and a sausage in a roll for the grandly sum of $33.
The mid week menu ranged in price for mains from $18.50 for the fish and chips through to $36 for the Birregurra eye fillet.
The aptly named grazing menu which included sourdough and oil at $5.50 up to $18 for dips was varied enough but not awe inspiring given the general cost.
Also on offer were pizzas $15.90 to $17.90 and pancakes at $15.50 to $16.50.
The signature mixed grill came in at $28.
Once the order was placed the general wait was 15 minutes until I could collect the meal and then navigate the uncertain stairs down to the lawn area overlooking the row boats and the Yarra river.
The fish and chips while plentiful for a 7 and 9 year old were not excessive, given what I consider to be a top price for a kids meal.
The sausage in a roll was probably the better value option but likewise was at the upper end of pricing given what you received.
The one saving grace to this expensive outing was the vista which costs nothing.
The Fairfield Boathouse while quaint and with a yesterday feel is not for those seeking an affordable casual lunch.
