Studio 19 Rentals – A Review
Mum and Dad I want to learn the flute were the words that greeted us one winters day. Having previously purchased a flute on line and always seeking to encourage musical pursuits we arranged for our eldest to commence lessons.
Armed with her flute and full of enthusiasm her first lesson started and within 5 minutes the words that every parent dreads from the Flute teacher, “you need to purchase another flute” as apparently the flute purchased for her did not generate the required note.
So as good parents, and armed with a list of the teacher’s suggested flutes we hit the music store trail. Store after store we ventured into only to be told the same thing……”the flute you are after is $659 which is a good price considering they have been reduced from $900″. While not wanting to discourage musical endeavors but also not wanting to spend a small fortune on what could also be a passing phase what were we to do?
Ah ha I thought to myself I will be able to buy one from overseas cheaper, no go there.
Maybe I can find one on eBay but no the right brand, type or model could not be found.
What are my options? So with time running out I searched for flute rentals and that was how I stumbled across Studio 19 Rentals. A quick phone call and I was speaking to Chris, who informed me that I could rent a pre-loved flute of the required brand and model and at the end of three months we could either continue renting it or purchase it.
Having completed the online application form, within one business day the flute was ready to be delivered.
The flute arrived and much to the delight of parents and child alike was the model required, was in exceptional condition, had been serviced, included a protective case and a how to care for manual.
Safe in the knowledge that if after three months interest in the flute has wained that it can be returned or if we have a budding flutist it can be purchased at a reasonable $279, we have one happy customer.
Overall the service provided by Studio 19 Rentals can not be faulted. For further information: www.instrumentrental.com.au

So is their system equivalent to just paying off the instrument (in this case) in equal installments or is there interest ?
You are actually “RENTING” the instrument the whole time until you physically phone studio 19 and tell them you wish to buy or return the instrument. Don’t get caught out like I did. Studio 19 didn’t contact me and tell me my 2 years were up and that I just needed to pay one last payment. No, they just kept taking money out of my bank account until I phoned them 3 months later to enquire why they were still taking money from my bank account when it should have been paid off. That’s when they asked for their final payment so I now have payed more money to Studio 19 then what the new instrument actually cost. Too bad if I didn’t wake up to this scam for another year or two. They would have just kept fleecing my bank account until I called them. I would have payed them enough to own two of my instruments by then. It’s NOT “rent to buy”, it’s “RENT until you call them to buy” otherwise return the instrument.
I disagree. Stay away from Studio 19 Rentals. If you do opt for them just hope that the instrument you rent isn’t faulty because if it is they will not help you at all. They are woeful.
