The Press Club Melbourne - A Review
Much has been written about The Press Club at 72 Flinders Street in Melbourne. Deriving its name from the building's previous use as the headquarters of the Herald and Sun Newspapers, the Press Club is celebrity chef George Calombaris' flagship restaurant.

The popularity of The Press Club is such that to dine on a Saturday night you need to book weeks in advance and even then you are are unlikely to secure a prime 7 or 7.30pm booking but more probably an 8.30pm time slot.

My first impressions of The Press Club was one of modern decor and appearance within a crowded environment. Not being an overly large restaurant space between tables has been compromised and for those seeking a romantic experience they should possibly consider another venue or specifically request a more secluded table. For us we were not so lucky and throughout the evening it was difficult if not impossible to not be distracted by the comings and goings at adjoining tables. My perception was that The Press Club has become a victim of its own popularity being forced to compromise space in favour of increased seating.

Service at The Press Club is of a high quality which you would expect when paying in excess of $40 for a main or if like us $135 per head for the 8 course symposium degustation.

The symposium degustation in short represents cullanary excellence which clearly proves the talents of George and his team.

The menu is well balanced in terms of variety and experience and is complemented by a well stocked cellar.

The Press Club, aside from the overcrowding, is and will continue to be one of Melbourne's premier dining destinations and one which if you get the opportunity you should most certainly experience.
