Eltham Miniature Railway – A Review
Big things come in small packages and this is certainly true of the Eltham Miniature Railway. Having three children all under the age of 9 and trying to keep them entertained over weekend is never easy. A trip to the leafy suburb of Eltham on a Sunday afternoon allowed them the opportunity to experience the joy of the Eltham Miniature Railway.
The railway operates every Sunday from 11am until 5pm and is very affordable at $3 per ticket.
The railway has all the thrills of yesteryear complete with steam, whistles and signals. The railway meanders through a regenerated eco-system of native bushland while providing all the enjoyment of tunnels, bridges, twists and turns.
The Eltham railway is maintained and operated by a team of avidly enthusiastic volunteers from the Diamond Valley Miniature Railway Society.
The train ride goes for between 15 to 20 minutes and after you can purchase snacks from the kiosk while the children can also enjoy a pony ride. also available is a circular bike and walking track along the Yarra River where artists from the Heidelberg School painted many a year ago. Other facilities include free BBQs, children’s playground, sporting ovals and a variety of pavilions.
The railway is located at Eltham Lower Park on Main Road Eltham – Melway reference 21 H10.
Overall the Eltham Miniature Railway is an excellent activity for any family.
