Best Western Hobart – A Review
Best Western Hobart – A Review – Who doesn’t like a mystery hotel? For me it is part of the excitement of a trip to select the mystery hotel option on sites such as wotif.com.au. On a recent short break to Hobart the mystery hotel turned out to be the Best Western Hobart located at 156 Bathurst Street, Hobart.
Best Western Hobart was up until relatively recently the Mecure and is a multi level hotel situated within a comfortable walking distance of Hobart’s major sites, such as Salamanca Place, Battery Point and major museums in the CBD.
When checking in, unknown to me, my reservation would have meant Mr 9 sleeping in a cot. The reception staff at Best Weatern Hobart immediately identified this predicament and changed my room to a family suite at no charge. So I went from potentially a single room with three beds to a 2 bedroom family suite. I was impressed.
As part of the rebranding from Mecure to Best Western the communal areas on the ground floor were refurbishment with the gym, restaurant and reception areas being modern and reflecting a 4 plus star standard.
The rooms themselves have also undergone a partial refurbishment with new furnishings and carpets, however, the bathrooms are still seemingly 1970s and would benefit from a refurb. The bathroom consists of a hand basin, toilet and shower over bath. A slight annoyance to me is the plumbing noises which can be heard from adjoining rooms when in the bathroom. In contrast the bedrooms were extremely comfortable with some of the most comfortable mattresses I gave slept on for a while, effective split system air conditioning (which was silent), a flat screen tv, table and chairs and access to a small balcony from which views over the surrounding neighbourhood could be enjoyed.
One issue I did note with the room was road noise from outside although I am sure that this could be overcome by requesting a room higher up in the building (we were on level 1).
Room facilities include a kettle, glasses and mugs and a minimal mini bar for which prices did not seem too unreasonable.
Room service was tested on the first evening with mains being open souvlaki, chicken blt, and fish and chips. At a cost of $72 including a cider this wasn’t unreasonable and the quality and service was quite good.
The Best Western Hobart also has its own restaurant and bar situated on the ground floor for which there is the obligatory happy hour and a menu which provides a good range from pizza through to high end steak.
The fitness centre is adequate comprising a range of cardio equipment.
Limited parking is provided on site and is available at a cost of $10 per 24 hours.
Overall the Best Western Hobart provides very comfortable accommodation which is ideal for a family.
